Daktronics provided an integrated LED super system including video, scoring and advertising displays for Arena Ciudad de México. A large area display wraps the facade, two ribbon board displays circle the inside of the arena and a large display is located in the center.

The center hung construction contains alone twelve LED video displays.

“With a project of this magnitude, the success was achievable due to great teamwork, great relationships and a product of high quality,” said Kyle Isenberg, Sales, Daktronics. The center hung configuration alone includes twelve LED video displays and measures 13.9 meters high by 23.8 meters wide, weighing approximately 68.000 kilograms. The two largest displays have ten millimeter pixel spacing and measure 11.1 meters high by 19.9 meters wide. There are also two square displays on the ends of the rectangular center hung and eight additional displays – two each on top and bottom of each side of the structure. These displays show dynamic live video, custom animation, full-color graphics and logos, up-to-the-minute sports statistics, timing and results information, and more.
The main center hung display is raised and lowered using a permanently installed custom designed hoist system from Daktronics rigging facility. Each of the four drums has a 1.09 meters diameter disc brake with two calipers. These safety brakes are always on and require motor power to drive the scoreboard in the downward direction. This system will be used to support the display at varying elevations depending on the venue’s needs. Complementing the primary center hung scoreboard are two LED ribbon boards mounted on the interior fascia of the seating decks. The larger one measures more than 361 meters in length and the second extends over 181 meters.
The exterior of the building features a display spanning approximately 29 meters high by 209 meters wide utilizing PXS-125 ProPixel® LED stick elements. This technology is mounted on the exterior of the building above an open-air concourse area. These full-color LED strips allow for visibility and image clarity for those viewers in front of the display, while allowing those behind the display to see through it.
Daktronics’ Show Control System is front and center in the video control room. Its robust software suite allows users to design, edit and produce an endless variety of colorful digital content and instantly deliver clips to the displays throughout the venue. (Stadionwelt, 04.06.2012)
