The new National Stadium in Warsaw is the stage for the opening game of the UEFA EURO on 8th June 2012. So the pitch becomes the center of interest. In Warsaw it has been decided to use an irrigation system of PERROT, the German professionals for turf irrigation.
The turf in modern stadiums is exposed to hard conditions, as the lawn plants consist of 80 per cent of water, a highly-efficient irrigation system is the basic condition for a perfect and durable lawn, as the company announces.
Its technique, which has already been used for the past FIFA World Cups in Germany and South Africa, represents a high reliability and jet stability. The tightly bundled jet minimizes drifts and enables a total coverage of the entire lawn with a maximum casting range of 34 meters. The interplay of twelve part circle sprinklers on the sidelines of the pitch and three full-circle sprinklers in the midfield guarantees maximum distribution accuracy, always close to the physical optimum, as Perrot also states.

The quality of the water distribution has also been confirmed by the independent Center of Irrigation Technology in California. The high rotational speed of these sprinklers of less than one minute serves both for a specific water supply of the turf as well as for the humidification of the surface for a particularly fast-paced game: even immediately before the game or during half-time a quick irrigation is possible. Especially during summer time when the lawn tends to be dry and sallow a quick wetting of the pitch is an important feature of the irrigation system.
The high quality of the pitch should not be interrupted by foreign elements, such as the common plastic covers of other producers. PERROT also found an exemplary solution for this problem and hides their sprinklers under a cover of natural lawn. In the end the technique remains invisible, there are no tripping hazards and the turf is very even.
Also in other stadiums of the European championship one can count on optimal pitch conditions: the Municipal Stadium in Wroclaw, the two stadiums of replacement in Chorzów and Cracow (both in Poland) as well as the Ukrainian Donbas Arena in Donetsk and Arena Lviv are also equipped with a PERROT irrigation system.
